today’s fun permacomputing project: rebuilding the battery pack for the nec mobilepro 790

it turns out that, thanks to a single post dug out of the hpcfactor.com forums, the mobilepro 7xx uses a standard 18650 lithium-ion cell.

they turned out to be surprisingly expensive online, so i checked locally and found someone who had harvested dozens of the cells out of his dead ebike battery. for $2 a cell, i bought half a dozen and can’t wait to repack the battery case.

cell repack method:

- cut along dotted line with precision surgical instrument

- inspect for chemical nightmares

@vga256 „surgical Instrument“? 🙂 I opened some 15 year old Dell Batteries and had no chance to ever get them back together. The welding was so strong, they were completely destroyed.
